7 Proven Jogging Benefits

If you are someone who is looking out for a physical activity that not only results in some calorie burning but also is a way to freshen up your body and spirit, then jogging is the best exercise.

Jogging early in the morning can boost up your mood and give a kick-start to your day.

For the joggers to stay motivated and for the ones who are thinking of taking up jogging, here are the 7  jogging benefits that you should definitely know!

1. Jogging Improves Mental Health

One of the quickest jogging benefits is the amazing feeling that you get after each a jogging session.

During jogging the body releases endorphins, a group of hormones that are responsible for deciding how you feel.

These hormones can make you feel good naturally. They calm you down by reducing the stress levels.

Jogging is a type of intense cardio workout that makes the pituitary gland in the brain to release these endorphins.

So this is how you can feel the alertness and boost right after an active jogging session.

2. Jogging benefits the heart health

Regular jogging has been found to be a great cardio workout. In fact, jogging is known as one of the best cardiovascular exercises.

Jogging strengthens the heart muscles and makes them work more efficiently.

Moreover, jogging is found to control blood pressure, blood glucose level as well as cholesterol levels.

It has been mentioned in WebMD, “After accounting for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and other risk factors for heart disease, death rates were significantly lower among regular joggers than non-joggers or those who fell out of the habit.”

However, it has also been mentioned that doctors urge caution while jogging for the people who are overweight or suffering from any heart disease or diabetes.

Jogging keeps the heart healthy

In a study released in 2012 by the Copenhagen City Heart, it has been mentioned that regular jogging increases the life expectancy by 6.2 years for men and 5.6 years for women.

3. Jogging benefits for the bones

While jogging, the bones experience a certain amount of load or stress. When you go for a regular jogging session, your bones experience this load on a routine basis.

This makes the bone tissues get prepared for the additional load every day.

Against this raised load, the bones strengthen in order to bear the load and to avoid any bone injuries. Thence, jogging makes your bones get stronger.

4. Jogging develops the muscles

Jogging engages the muscles. It brings an intense physical activity in the large muscles of the body.

Jogging targets the hamstrings, gluteal muscles, calf muscles, muscles in the midsectional area of your body etc.

It puts these muscles into a repetitive emotional activity that tones the muscles.

Thus jogging benefits the body muscles by giving a leaner and toned body with well-developed muscles.

5. Jogging helps in weight loss

Yes, yes and yes. Jogging does help in burning calories and losing weight.

Having said that, I would also add here that without taking care of what you eat and just jogging won’t make any difference in your weight.

Jogging is an aerobic exercise that helps in boosting the body’s metabolism.

And we know that with a higher metabolism, burning fat becomes easier and faster. And hence it helps in losing weight more effectively.

Is it bad to go jogging everyday?

The way a body responds to exercises depends on many factors. While some people may have no difficulty in jogging everyday, some might develop muscle strains.

It has been found that varying the type of workout can be more effective than sticking to the same workout everyday. Jogging is a type of aerobic cardio exercise.

Many studies show that along with cardio, some strength training must also be followed. So, instead of excessive jogging every day, try to take up jogging at a moderate rate.

6. Jogging benefits the respiratory system

Jogging makes the respiratory system work more efficiently. While jogging also helps in increasing the lung’s capacity which makes a greater quantity of air to move in and out of it.

Moreover, aerobic training like jogging can help in improving the endurance capacity of the respiratory muscles.

It also helps in improving the efficiency of the body tissues towards absorbing oxygen and removing carbon dioxide.

Breathing problems may be triggered in asthmatic people with certain exercises including jogging, however, if the asthma is in a controlled condition, jogging can help in improving the overall lung health in them too.
